Executive Board

The Executive Board of the Student Government is responsible for overseeing the functions, services, and activities that the branches of the Student Government provide. They meet as a group on Thursdays at 5pm in the Student Government Office and spend many hours working individually to ensure that the Student Union keeps operating correctly and efficiently. The Executive Board is here to serve you, the students of 杏吧论坛. We work hard each and every day to ensure that your voice is heard. The duties of the President of the Student Government are outlined in Article III, Section 2 of the Constitution of the Student Government. The President serves as the official representative of the student body of 杏吧论坛 and is the chief executive officer of the Student Union. In the capacity of the Student Government chief executive, the President presides over the Student Government Senate and chairs the Executive Board. The President is the sole representative of the Student Government in all matters. The President has the authority to appoint students to serve on various University-wide committees to act as his or her representative. The President signs all legislation after Senate passage and has the authority to enforce the legislation as defined in the Constitution. He/She also serves on various University committees and sub-committees as well as holding a non-voting seat with the Board of Trustees.

The duties of the Vice President of the Student Government are outlined in Article III, Section 3 of the Constitution of the Student Government. The duties of the Vice President include assisting the President in any and all tasks presented to the individual. In the absence of the President the Vice President is responsible for conducting the business the President would otherwise conduct. It is the responsibility of the Vice President to supervise the updates of all governing documents.

The duties of the Director of Business Affairs (DBA) of the Student Government are outlined in Article III, Section 4 of the Constitution of the Student Government. The DBA is required to make budgets for the University Club (U Club), and Legion of Student Organizations (LSO) each spring. This individual is also co-chair the Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee (SAFAC). As a member of the Student Organization Review Board (SORB), this individual attends all Student Organization Budget Board (SOBB) meetings, and handles all check requests and journal entries for organizations. The DBA is also responsible for keeping student organization officers up-to-date on their financial standing.

The duties of the Director of Student Organizations of the Student Government are outlined in Article III, Section 6 of the Constitution of the Student Government. The Director of Student Organizations is responsible for the Legion of Student Organizations (LSO) which is comprised of all the registered and recognized student organizations on campus (everything from American Chemical Society to Dance Ensemble). The Director of Student Organizations provides programming, collaboration, communication, and financial support to student organizations, which is mainly done through the two branches of LSO鈥搕he Student Organization Budget Board (SOBB) and the Student Organization Review Board (SORB).

SOBB, as the financial branch, is responsible for the allocation of funds to the organizations which request money for events, trips, and/or supplies. SORB, as the administrative branch, enforces LSO policies as well as helps new groups become recognized student organizations. The Director of Student Organizations chairs all committees and oversees their work. Additionally, this person handles the 鈥淥f the Year鈥 Leadership Awards given out every year at Inauguration to winning organizations, an advisor, and student leaders.

The duties of the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) are outlined in Article III, Section 7 of the Constitution of the Student Government. The Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is responsible to serve as an advocate for students whose identities have been historically minoritized, serve a representative at the Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, work with and engage 杏吧论坛 on institutional-level issues as they relate to the realms of diversity, equity, and inclusion and remain in contact and have regular meetings with the following persons and departments: Director of the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion; the Director of the Office of Student Engagement to ensure engagement of commuter students; the Office of Student Accessibility Services; the university鈥檚 Title IX Coordinator; and any other persons and departments necessary to fulfill the tasks of this position. They shall maintain regular contact with leaders within cultural organizations as recognized by the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion and organize diversity, equity, and inclusion training for Student Government Executive Board Officers and Senators to occur at the orientation for new and returning members at the beginning of the spring semester.

The duties of the Chief of Staff are outlined in Article VI, Section 1 of the Constitution of the Student Government. The Chief of Staff serves as an active assistant to the Executive Board and a resource to the Senate. This individual manages all administrative tasks pertaining to the Senate and/or Executive Board meetings such as taking roll call at meetings to record of attendance, maintaining accurate meeting minutes, managing guest speaker schedule for Senate meetings, and reviewing all Senate legislation prior to updating meeting agendas.

Senate

The Student Government Senate consists of six senators from each undergraduate class at 杏吧论坛, with one elected as the Class President. Senators convene on a weekly basis Tuesdays at 5 p.m. in the Jardine Room to discuss the happenings of the prior week, from student advocacy committee work to the latest issues and concerns of the campus community. All legislation must be approved by the Senate, and any issues or concerns can be brought to these students. These meetings are open and all 杏吧论坛 students are welcome to attend!

All Senators are required to be an active member of at least one student advocacy committee. All of these committees work with university administration, faculty, and/or staff on problems or issues that arise.
