Scholarships for Prospective Students
First-year ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ students pursuing healthcare (medical, dental, pharmacy, etc.) and nursing careers are eligible to apply for the SANUM Scholars award. These $6,122 scholarships are funded by a grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education and ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ and may be used in addition to any other sources of financial aid. Scholarships for Current ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ Pre-Health Students
The Kenneth & Joan Callahan Endowed Scholarship is a $4,400 scholarship awarded to a current pre-medical and pre-dental sophomores, to be applied to the student's junior year with the opportunity it will be renewed for the student's senior year.Ìý
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:

Have a declared intent to pursue a career in medicine or dentistry by being a registered active participant of the Pre-Health Professions Program and activities;

Be able to demonstrate community involvement and/or social responsibility;
-
Have an overall GPA of at least 3.5;
-
Plan on graduating in May 2023
Applicants may discuss their financial need in the application materials.
Application Materials Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- A resume that includes academic achievements, expected graduation month/year, community involvement, and other activities that convey the scholarship, work ethic and social responsibility of the applicant;
- Names and contact information of two people who can serve as references( email and phone number );
- A copy of the applicant’s web transcript (unofficial transcript from Banner);
- A personal essay that demonstrates a desire to pursue a career in medicine or dentistry, how the applicant’s community service impacted that career goal, and the steps taken to fulfill that goal.ÌýFinancial need issues can also be included in the essay.ÌýMaximum length of essay is 4,500 characters, including spaces.Ìý

The James J. & Marie Kolenich Pre-Med Scholarship is a $4,400 scholarship awarded to a current pre-medical juniors who intends to pursue a career in medicine. The award will be applied to the student's senior year.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:

Have a declared intent to pursue a career in medicine by being a registered participant of the Pre-Health Professions Program;

Have an overall GPA of at least 3.25;
-
Be on track to graduate in May 2024;
-
Demonstrate an interest in the humanities through coursework and/or other humanities activities;

Have taken over 50% of undergraduate coursework at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ at the time the award is given

A resume that describes his or her academic achievements, expected graduation month/year, community involvement, and other extracurricular activities that convey both the scholarship and social responsibility of the applicant.

A personal essay (max length 4,500 characters) that demonstrates a desire to pursue a career in medicine and an interest in the humanities by highlighting course selections that clearly show such interest, extracurricular activities that point to an interest in the humanities, and/or characteristics that show an interest in the humanities. How will the humanities help you practice medicine? Financial need issues can also be included in the essay.

The Terence H. Ahearn, S.J. award goes to the outstanding Pre-Health Professions student and is named after the former director of the Biology Department at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳. Father Ahearn is considered to have established the basis for pre-medical and pre-health professions education here at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳.
1. Research: Summer I Engage in cutting-edge medical research projects, work under the guidance of esteemed faculty mentors, gain hands-on experience, and contribute to advancements in healthcare.
2. Medical Immersion Trip to Honduras: Summer II Immerse yourself in a unique medical environment, work alongside healthcare professionals in Honduras, gain a global perspective of healthcare in rural Honduras, and develop cultural competence and an understanding of others.
3. MCAT Preparation: MCAT preparation materials will be provided to help you achieve your best score and unlock your pathway to medical school. Eligibility – Applicants must be in their first or second year, majoring in Biology or Cell and Molecular Biology, and intend on applying to medical school. A 3.5 or higher GPA is recommended.
