The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department recognizes academic achievement through various scholarships and awards.

We encourage you to become involved in professional and student organizations, whether they are chemistry-related or not. Several of our faculty members advise student groups.

The department sends information about internship and employment opportunities to our majors. Students are involved in undergraduate research projects with faculty on campus and as part of internships at local companies and organizations. The Cleveland area has a wealth of companies located right here. Some of the most recent places our students have held internships are Lake County Crime Labs, Sherwin Williams, Lubrizol, NASA, and small industries (Akzo-Nobel, Chromoflo Technologies, Component Technologies), and in non-profit bio-medical research at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Our students develop contacts and build networks through the various seminar speakers the department hosts each semester. We also urge you to utilize the Center for Career Services and participate in the College of Arts and Sciences Professional Development Program.

The department offers chemistry majors paid opportunities to support faculty as teaching assistants (TA). TA's duties include assisting students during lab experiments, grading lab reports, and lab preparation.

Many of our majors have studied abroad in Ireland or Spain. Additional information can be found here.

Outside of the classroom here, professors do a lot of things. One of the things I like about being a professor at ÐÓ°ÉÂÛ̳ is that the academic advising of students is done by professors right from the start. I like getting a chance to get to know freshman students and help them figure out where they're going.
