UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OHIO – Ӱ̳’s Office of Admission is responding to recent delays with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by providing admitted students with an “Estimated Cost of Attendance” prior to official financial aid offers. Last week, the U.S. Department of Education announced that distribution of FAFSA results to colleges will be delayed until mid-to-late March, almost two months later than previous years. The “Estimated Cost of Attendance” plan was announced to admitted students on Friday, Feb. 2.

“Our Jesuit Catholic mission is rooted in service and we are committed to providing families with the information they need to make a decision about college,” said Carolyn Noll Sorg, Vice President for Enrollment Management. “The delays in the FAFSA process have created confusion for students and their families and we know this is leading to extraordinary stress. Our team is committed to assisting families through this challenging process while also providing transparency on cost.”

Based in University Heights, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, Ӱ̳ has created a process that allows families to enter the Student Aid Index (SAI) that they received upon completion of the FAFSA. This information will be used to create a cost estimate now, rather than waiting for the FAFSA results to be sent to the institution by the US Department of Education in late March. As part of this estimate, the amount of aid offered by Ӱ̳ to a family will be guaranteed. An official Financial Aid Award – which summarizes a families’ funding from Ӱ̳ and funding from the federal or state government – is expected to be available mid-April.

Admitted families seeking a cost estimate should login to their myӰ̳ Gateway Student Portal at and indicate their current FAFSA status:

  • For families who have filed (or will file) the FAFSA and received a confirmation with a Student Aid Index (SAI) number, Ӱ̳ will invite you to share your results with us directly. Cost estimates powered by your FAFSA will be guaranteed.
  • For families who are experiencing an error when attempting to file the FAFSA or who have received a confirmation without an SAI number, Ӱ̳ will work with you to provide our best estimate of cost.
  • For families who will not file the FAFSA, Ӱ̳ will develop your cost estimate with only merit-based scholarships in mind.

Ӱ̳ is still accepting applications for the incoming Fall 2024 class. Visit www.jcu.edu/applynow.

Students choosing to attend Ӱ̳ benefit from a generous financial aid package that includes merit aid (based on academics), institutional funds (based on family need), as well as other scholarships and grants. Graduates of Ӱ̳ are leaders in every industry, including 500 who own or operate businesses in Northeast Ohio.

Ӱ̳’s Inspired Futures strategy provides the backdrop for the current enrollment cycle, including the recent launch of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program – featuring two new Nursing labs – and the debut of a College of Health. Ӱ̳’s investment in healthcare will also include new majors in Public Health (2024), Healthcare Administration (2025), and Master of Science in Nursing (2025).

A three-year, $100 million investment in campus facilities kicked off in 2022 with renovations to the D.J. Lombardo Student Center, the Grasselli Library and Breen Learning Center, and multiple residence halls, and the construction of a state-of-the-art 100,000 square foot Athletic, Wellness and Event Center, scheduled to open in 2025.

“We are thrilled with the progress to date on the implementation of our Inspired Futures strategy,” said Miciak. “These investments in our student experience signal our desire to innovate and evolve with the focus always remaining on successful outcomes for our students.”
